cuisine = food specific to an area or a country etc
overwhelmed = to overpower
E.g. The bride was overwhelmed by the all the gifts that her new husband gave her and started weeping quietly.
counterpart n = (usually) a person in the same position in another organization, such as a company, a government etc
E.g.
The Chinese prime Minister met with his Australian counterpart on Wednesday.
to stiff v = informal to cheat out of a transaction / to snub, to avoid, to reject
E.g. I thought I was buying a Sony Walkman, but I got stiffed for $200.
