I ate an apple.
Yesterday at 3PM I was studying English.
I studied English last week.

Present = today, right now, this week, this month, this year; 2016, etc.
E.g.: Jerry is alive today.
I eat an apple.
I am eating an apple.
I am studying English right now.
I study English everyday.

Future = tomorrow, next week; next year; in ten years; 2017; 2116; etc.
E.g.: Jerry will be alive tomorrow.
Jerry is going to be alive tomorrow.
I will eat an apple.
I’m going to eat an apple.
I will study English next week.
I’m going to study English next week.
