Vocabulary

Pronunciation

One of my most favorite shows is the American sitcom, Friends. It’s really funny and amusing, I burst into laughter every time I watch it.

I remember one episode about Ross’s monkey, Marcel when he ran away. That morning, Rachel helped Ross take care of Marcel because Ross was going out that day. She brought Marcel back to Monica’s apartment and spent the whole day alone with the monkey. Marcel pooped in Monica’s shoe when Rachel was watching TV. Rachel was pissed off and went out to throw the poop away, but she forgot to close the door. When Rachel came back, she couldn’t find Marcel. Ross thought Rachel went back on her word as she promised to take care of Marcel. Everyone anxiously went out to look for the monkey. They checked each floor one by one but still couldn’t find him. Rachel even called Animal Control to help. But Marcel was an illegal exotic animal and Ross was not allowed to have him in the city. If Animal Control found the monkey, they would take him away from Ross. So Ross and Rachel had a terrible argument/fight about this. It was really a coincidence that the animal control administrator was Monica and Rachel’s high school classmate, Luisa. But they didn’t have a good relationship at that time. Luisa hated Monica and Rachel so she wouldn’t help them and even said she would take the monkey away if she found it.

When they were hanging out and looking for Marcel, Phoebe was accidentally shot with a tranquilizer by Luisa. Finally, they found Marcel in their neighbor’s house. But Luisa wanted to take Marcel away even though everyone was begging her not to.  That was a big deal for Ross. Rachel intimidated Luisa and said, “if you must take Marcel away, I will tell your superior you shot Phoebe with a tranquilizer.” Then Marcel was safe with Ross again.
Ross got the bottle of wine which was already opened before and shared it with Rachel. They started drinking and instantly began to relax / forgot about the day.

Playing Poker
Rachel hated to be waitress anymore and was sick of being called”Excuse me”, so she sent many resumes for interview. She got an interview from Saks Fifth Avenue.

In Central Perk Cafe, Ross, Joey and Chandler were talking about playing poker last night, Monica, Phoebe and Rachel asked why not anybody invite them. They wanted to play poker as well. The men guys hesitated but agreed to teacher them. They started to draw cards and play for real. But at last all of Monica, Phoebe and Rachel lost and had to pay the men guys money. The next day Monica asked her aunt Iris to teacher them how to play poker. They learned many of the poker game skills and even could shuffle cards very well. But they lost again when they played with Ross, Joey and Chandler.

What’s worse, Rachel received a phone call and was told the interview had not been passed when they were playing in third round. She felt rather depressed and disappointed so she went on playing the game more crazily. Ross wanted to make Rachel happy and deliberately lost to her.

Finally, Rachel won the game. She opened a bottle of wine and cheered with Monica and Phoebe. She was very excited and even forgot the bad interview.
