Vocabulary

Punishment (n): 1- to cause someone who has done something wrong or committed a crime to suffer, by hurting them, forcing them to pay money, sending them to prison, etc.
E.g.:  Those responsible for these crimes must be brought to court and given a punishment.

Penalty (n): 1- a punishment, or the usual punishment, for doing something that is against a law
E.g.: They are fighting for heavier penalties for people who drink and drive.

Fine (n/v): 1- an amount of money that has to be paid as a punishment for not obeying a rule or law
E.g.: The maximum penalty for the offense is a $1,000 fine.

Parents need to educate their children to be a good person/citizen.

Parents need to raise their children to be strong individuals.

I was brought up in a loving, caring family.

I will bring my children up in a safe environment.

I was brought up to be my own person.

My nephew is being raised by my mother. = My mother is raising my nephew.
