Vocabulary 词汇


Flip-flops – sandals that go through the toes, 人字拖鞋

Ex. Most people wear flip-flops when they go to the beach.

Cap/Baseball Cap – the most common kind of hat, usually used in sports

Ex. I normally use a baseball cap to hold my hair up when I go to the gym.

Beanie – a hat that covers the ears and is usually worn during winter

Ex. I wear a beanie even when it gets hot because I think it looks stylish (时髦).

Fitting Room – the room in a clothing store where you can try on clothes before you buy them

Ex. Because fitting rooms don’t have security cameras, many people try to steal things while in them.

Garment – a piece of clothing

Ex. Most fitting rooms do not allow people to bring in more than six garments.

Coat – an outer garment that is usually used for unfriendly weather

Ex. Make sure to wear your coat, it’s very cold outside!

Jacket – an outer garment that can be used for unfriendly weather or to be fashionable

Grammar 语法


The difference between may and maybe

The word maybe is usually used as an answer to a question. It can also be used at the beginning of a sentence.

Ex. “Will you go to the party tonight? –Maybe, we’ll see.”

Ex. “Maybe we should go get food soon. 我们快去吃饭,好吗?”

The word may is used as a verb (动词) and an adverb (副词). It can go before any verb or subject.
Ex. I may go to the store later today = maybe I’ll go to the store later today.

Cashier – the worker in a store that helps you buy everything once you are done shopping

Ex. After choosing my favorite garments, I took everything to the cashier so I could buy them and leave.

Checkout – verb, to purchase things after shopping around

Ex. After choosing my favorite garments, I took everything to the cashier so I could check-out and leave.

Checkout line – the line of people waiting to check-out, 付账的队

Ex. Sometimes, the shortest checkout line takes the longest because the cashier is too slow.
