Yesterday I didn’t know if you had ever been to Japan. So I asked: “Carol, have you ever been to Japan?”. You said: “No, I haven’t.”
Yesterday I didn’t know if you had been to Japan. So I asked you if you had ever been to Japan. You told me you hadn’t.
At this moment, I do not know if you have ever been to Japan. So I ask: “Carol, have you ever been to Japan?” You say “No, I haven’t.”
consecutive = one after another / in a row
E.g. I worked on this project for three consecutive days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
