Vocabulary

Campus (n): 1- the buildings of a college or university and the land that surrounds them:
E.g.: There’s accommodation for about five hundred students on campus.

Origin (n): 1- the beginning or cause of something. 2- where a person was born.
E.g.: It’s a book about the origin of the universe.

Ancestry (n): 1- your ancestors who lived a long time ago, or the origin of your family.
E.g.: He was proud of his Native American ancestry.

Emotional (adj): 1-  having and expressing strong feelings.
E.g.: He’s a very emotional man.

Accomplishment (n): 1- an achievement. 2- the finishing of something.
E.g.: Women’s History Month celebrates women’s accomplishments throughout American History.
E.g.: We celebrated the successful accomplishment of our task.

Dwindle (v): 1- to become smaller in size or amount, or fewer in number; decline; drop; shrink.
E.g.: The community has dwindled to a tenth of its former size in the last two years.

Shift (n/v): 1- to change.
E.g.: Society’s attitudes towards women have shifted enormously over the last century.

Alteration (n): 1- a change, usually a slight change, in the appearance, character, or structure of something.
E.g.: Several police officers are being questioned about the alteration of the documents.

Preserve (v): 1- to keep something as it is, especially in order to prevent it from decaying or being damaged or destroyed
E.g.: They are working to preserve the building for the next generation.

Come about (v): 1- to happen, or start to happen.
E.g.: How did the problem come about in the first place?
