Vocabulary

Southernmost (adj): 1- furthest towards the south of an area.
E.g.: He lives in the southernmost tip of the island.

Proactive (adj): 1- taking action by causing change and not only reacting to change when it happens.
E.g.: Companies are going to have to be more proactive about environmental management.

Civil War (n): 1- a war fought by different groups of people living in the same country:
E.g.: The Spanish Civil War lasted from 1936 to 1939.

Rebel (n): 1- a person who is opposed to the political system in their country and tries to change it using force. 2- a person who does not like rules or authority, and shows this by behaving differently from most people in society.
E.g.: The rebels took over the capital and set up a new government.
E.g.: He was a rebel when he was a teenager and dyed his hair pink.

Secede (v): 1- to become independent of a country or area of government.
E.g.: There is likely to be civil war if the region tries to secede from the south.

Jihad (n): 1- in Islam, a religious struggle against evil in yourself or in society. 2- a holy war fought by Muslims against people who are a threat to Islam.
