Edited letter for masters

Dear Madame or Sir,
As an aspiring CG practitioner, I am applying to the Character Animation Course of Sheridan School. As a result of my past 6 years of work experience in the industry, I have realised that movies, especially animated movies, are my true passion. Furthermore, my research indicates that Sheridan has an outstanding reputation and your first-rate program will provide me with the best possible preparation to stimulate my creativity and expand this area of my profession.

Animation has been a huge passion of mine and a big part of my life for the past 10 years while I’ve been both studying and working in this industry. I have obtained artistic aptitude and plastic ability (what does that mean?) which has helped me to enter this field and to achieve a significant amount in the time I have spent. Whilst working on model creation in my current role as a Modeller I have gained expertise in areas such as anatomical knowledge, muscle contractions, and others that are required for the early stage of animation. However, the beauty and magic in making these figures come to life is what has really inspired me to work and learn so hard.

Modelling is not just about what the character looks like, it’s the appearance and the topology that greatly affect the rigging and animation. Likewise, the character’s motor habit is an important influencing factor in the appearance. Since the two parts are tightly linked, I feel that I have a great advantage in making progress in the course, and the ability to combine the art of space and time. In addition, I practice dancing in my spare time, including dance moves like popping, locking, jazz enve (what’s that?) and Chinese ethnic dancing. The art of dance has allowed me to obtain more authentic feelings about acting, movement and rhythm. It gives me great joy and excitement and I am desperate to put these feelings into my work.

Also, I am a huge fan of western animated movies. Every detail from figurative concept and motion, to abstract atmosphere and culture, shows every technician and artist’s passion and effort. I am amazed by their professional attitude and the level of their skill. I would love to be a part of this amazing group of people, bringing my passion and Chinese spirit along with me. Before I am able to achieve this, I will leave my employment in China which will allow me to full dedicate myself to this course and its completion.

I will be submitting my CV and portfolio including images and demo reel (when?). I greatly appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely
Lina Guo
