Speaking exercise

In today’s class, we practiced some listening. I said the sentence ‘I have to set my watch ahead by 2 minutes’. You heard and wrote ‘I had to wash my head about 2 minutes’. Although you are close, this shows that you need more practice speaking general English to pass this part of the test. By speaking more English, you will broaden your knowledge of common phrases like ‘set my watch ahead’, making this kind of question possible for you.

Pronunciation

Your pronunciation of some words is not very clear. This may impact your score as well, although it may not be the biggest obstacle for you to overcome with this test.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary. I showed you an image containing 18 words and asked which ones were real words. You were able to identify 5 words as being real English words. However, there were actually 13 real English words. This type of question is also a big part of the test. You must increase your vocabulary. The most effective way to do this is to combine different styles of learning. You need to read and speak regularly, talking about various topics, reading about lots of subjects, and broadening your vocabulary as much as possible. I recommend that you learn several thousand words before attempting the test, as a score of 95 seems to require a fairly advanced level of vocabulary.

Writing exercise

When writing, you made some errors.

You wrote ‘Oil is one of most important nature resouse’. You should have written ‘Oil is one of the most important natural resources’
There are three mistakes in this sentence. One is a spelling mistake and the other two are grammar mistakes, using ‘nature'(noun) instead of ‘natural'(adj) and not using ‘the’ before ‘most’.

Homework

Start by adding to your vocabulary by reading. Try reading news articles about various popular topics and make sure you are able to write all the words correctly.
