to run sth. – to be in charge and operate it
eg: He owns the business, but his brother runs it.
started off – began
eg: Allison started off with such terrible English, but not it’s pretty good.
Coincidence – when two things that seem related happen at the same time, but are actually unrelated
eg: What a coincidence I saw my old professor in the airport at NY, but we are both from California.
eg: It was really coincidental (ADJ.) that I ran into him there.
clown – a person who wears a lot of silly makeup and funny clothes usually to entertain children
Class Clown – someone who makes a lot of jokes or acts foolish to be funny, in class
eg: He is a class clown, but it’s only because he thinks this material is too easy.
be in the spotlight – to be the center of attention
eg: When we sit at the table he tried to tell some jokes to steal the spotlight.
stay tuned – keep paying attention to this channel
Our company is trying to revise some principles, the people who are in charge of this have told us to stay tuned.
jump the shark – when a tv show does sth. that is unusual or strange for their show.
eg: There was a show called happy days, in which a bunch of teenagers in th 50’s just lived normal lives, and had some funny situations dealing with everyday life. One character called Fonzi, was super cool and had a motorcycle. The show really messed up though, when they pushed the boundaries a bit too far and had Fonzi, jump over a Shark in a fish tank, on his motorcycle. This wasn’t received well by audiences and the show soon lost all good ideas for stories and was cancelled. Now “Jumping the Shark” is when a show does sth. like this.

You can’t do something intentionally, especially to make children grow up. It will lead to a bad result.
You can’t force nature.
Impatience spoils the results.
