2VIP Class Notes (Consultant)

Today we continued to practice reading “Hippo’s toothache”. Angela could read the story a little better but still struggled with some of the meaning and pronunciation. Words such as “moan”, “groan”, “vine”,  “tied”, and “especially” need further practice. We went through all of the remaining pages of the book and talked about all the new vocabulary. We practiced reading the book together around 5-6 times. In the end, Angela could read most of the material but had a bit of trouble with some of the harder words mentioned above. She told me she was a bit tired with this book and I read her two other books from this collection. This is our 3rd or even 4th class going through “Hippo’s toothache” so I am not surprised that Angela doesn’t find the story as interesting, but I really hope she puts in the time and effort to read all the books we’ve learned in class fluently. I hope she will practice reading at home every day and next week she will be able to reach full fluency. A major reason I insist on practicing is that Angela has trouble with her sight words. Today in class she mixed up “white” and “with” many times. The best way to improve sight words is just through exposure and practice.

Homework: I’ve recorded myself reading “Hippo’s toothache” to Angela. I hope she listens to my recording every day and reads along. hopefully for 20-30 mins every day. By next week she should be able to read the book fluently.

P.S. Please bring some new, easier books we can read together next class. These level “I” books are a bit challenge for Angela to read.
