2 VIP Class Notes (Consultant)

It was a pleasure to see Angela after the holidays.

First, we did a bit of catching up. We talked about what we did during the lunar new year holidays. We also talked about the different foods we got to eat. Angela said a sweet dish we pineapple and mochi balls was her favorite. We continued to talk about different fruits, flavors, and things we liked to eat. Angela described her favorite fruit to me, which turned out to be passion fruit. We also talked about fruits such as mangoes, durians, peaches, and such.

Next, I checked her homework from the last class and it was done beautifully. Unfortunately, she said she did not practice reading “Hippo’s toothache” at home, which meant we had to go over the book in class. I asked her to read the story to me. She could read most of the sight words but struggled with some of the more complex high-frequency words such as “early” and “toothache”. I kept a list of the words she had trouble with and we will go over them in the next class. We talked about the different animals and characters in the books and spelled out a lot of the new names, such as “Milly” and “Ziggy.” I read the story for her as well.

After our break, we took a deep dive into to book and went through all of the words and sentences. Angela did not understand most of the words she couldn’t read. We also spent a lot of time familiarizing ourselves with them. By the end of class, we covered pages 3-9 and practiced reading them more than three times.

For homework this week, I hope Angela will practice reading pages 3-9 every day. If there is an audio book I recommend listening to it and reading along. I hope by next class she would be able to read pages 3-9 with absolute fluency.
