Writing exercise

Write about your trip to the US and how it changed your opinion.

Since the excellent performance during the past several decades, the US is considered the most powerful, advanced and attractive country in the world. In many people’s imagination, there are huge skyscrapers in downtowns, beautiful houses in towns and villages. Some millionaires live luxury life and the big middle-class people live abundant life. The poor should be minority in the society. All business are prosperous and great inventions always happen in this country first and lead the trend in the world.

I might have the same expectation before I started my second journey in the US. I had seen the Rust Belt cities 9 years before. They were lack of vitality and made me sad. But this time I would travel the whole abundant west coast, and I was really looking forward to see something different to tell me that the US was still the light-house of the civilian world.

Irvine and San Diego were fine. Basically met my expectation. Then I arrived in the Bay Area, which was the most vivid and prosperous district in the US. I trully had high expectation in it. But what I saw in San Fransisco and Oakland made me disappointed somehow.
