Homework

Writing: One crazy story that happened to you back in university.
After the baseball team-building, write about what you learned about the rules, or whether you like the game.

Vocabulary

Mess up – to get something wrong
e.g. I messed up his name (I said it incorrectly, or wrote it incorrectly)
e.g. I messed up the cake. I put in too many eggs, and it baked solid.

Bitter – when something has too much base in it 苦
e.g. If you put too much baking soda in your cake, it will be super bitter.

Bittermelon – 苦瓜

Inflection – when your tones and volume of speaking go up and down; how you show emotion beyond the basic meaning of a sentence.

Extreme – a lot of something
e.g. He speaks extremely loudly.
e.g. He uses extreme inflections in his speaking, so he always seems to be really excited.

Photoshop – a program for editing photos; also a verb which means that a photo has been changed using a computer
e.g. I think that that ping pong ball was photoshopped into that picture.
e.g. I think that that picture was photoshopped. (It doesn’t look real)

Percent – how many out of 100; this is measured with reference to 100
e.g. This drink is 52% ABV (by volume, this drink is 52% alcohol)
e.g. 80 percent (literally: 80 of 100)
Degree – a way of measuring something in equal steps; this has no limit
e.g. It is three degrees out today. Quite cold!

Trumpet – 小号

Softball – baseball with a larger ball

a Run – the word for “a point” in baseball
e.g. We just scored! The score is now 3 runs to 2 runs.
NOT: it’s 3 points to 2.
Base – the places in baseball where you are safe (they cannot get you out when you’re standing on it)
