When I was 22, I was a student (in college) went to the China by self. I fly to Shanghai with just a backpack alone and then I got a slow train to Guilin City and the southwest of China. That place is a border between China and Myanmar. It was rainy season so some people said its a dangerous to travel there but I had a plan already so I got the train to go there and really it was so dangerous. After I alived big city of southwest China and then I have to transfer to get bus to there. So, when I was on bus I saw 2 3 bus already rolled down the forest because they 3,000m always up and then just down to that place. So when this bus drived this road it was so dangerous and then at that time is in 1994 many years ago that more unfortunately things is I don’t have enough money to back to Shanghai but I was young so I’m very… I don’t feel… I didn’t afraid of that.

This was many years ago, in 1994… When I caught the train, I couldn’t eat lunch because I didn’t have money. I spent all my money on this train. One guy asked me why I wasn’t eating lunch… Then he paid for my lunch and he gave me cigarette and gave me watermelon, so many things and I say when this train approach Shanghai I have to call my friend to pick me up and he gave me his cell phone to call my friend.

When I was a 22-year-old college student, I went to China by myself. I flew to Shanghai with just a backpack/only a backpack and then I took/caught a slow train to Guilin City and another to the southwest of China. That place is the border between China and Myanmar. It was the rainy season so some people said it was dangerous to travel there but I already had a plan so I got on the train to go there and it really was so dangerous. After I arrived in Kunming in southwest China, I had to transfer to a bus to go to Xishuangbanna.

So, when I was on the/my bus, I saw 2 or 3 buses already roll down the  3,000m high mountain because the road was slippery and there was no guardrail.

So, when this bus drove on this dirt road it was so dangerous but I didn’t have enough money to go back to Shanghai. I didn’t have any other choice / I didn’t have another choice somehow, fortunately, I wasn’t afraid/I didn’t feel afraid.

This was many years ago, in 1994… When I caught the train, I couldn’t eat lunch because I didn’t have money. I spent all my money on this trip. One guy asked me why I wasn’t eating lunch… Then he paid for my lunch and he gave me cigarettes and watermelon. I said, “When this train approaches Shanghai I have to call my friend to pick me up,” so he gave/lent me his cell phone to call my friend.

At that time, I thought Chinese people were very selfless.

When I was a 22-year-old college student, I went to China by myself. I flew to Shanghai with only a backpack and then I hopped on a slow train to Guilin City and another to the southwest of China which place is the border between China and Myanmar. It was the rainy season so some people said it was dangerous to travel there but I was determined and already had a plan so I got on the train to go there and it really was so dangerous. After I arrived in Kunming in southwest China, I had to transfer to a bus to go to Xishuangbanna.

So, when I was on the/my bus, I saw 2 or 3 buses already topple down the  3,000m high mountain because the road was unstable and muddy and there was no guardrail.

So, when this bus drove on this muddy road it was so dangerous but I didn’t have enough money to go back to Shanghai. I didn’t have any other choice / I didn’t have another choice somehow, fortunately, I wasn’t afraid and I wasn’t worried. I felt young, alive, and fearless.

This was many years ago, in 1994… When I caught the train, I couldn’t eat lunch because I was penniless.
