Vocabulary
Sit-Ups – An exercise when you sit up. Lie on the ground and bring your head up to your knees.
Squats – Standing and then sitting “in the air,” and then standing again.
Pull-ups – When you pull yourself up with a bar, so your chin is over the bar.
Aerobics – A class where you move around a lot, kind of like dancing.
Senior – People older/more experienced than you. You help the senior students with their work.
Stuff – Things. “I help with the easy stuff, when helping the senior students prepare make-up.”
What are you studying at university? – Oh, just some boring stuff.
Shanghai Film Festival – The big event in Shanghai celebrating film.
Film – Movies
Finished Product – The clothing that has been made from your designs.
Modifications – Changes to your design so that it works better.
Elephant – Big grey animal. Huge! (Have you made any elephant costumes?).
Model – Somebody that wears clothes and walks up and down a stage. Or sits in front of cameras.
Degree – The qualification you get when you complete a university course.
Lucky – Get something that is very hard to get. Like becoming a famous actor, you must be lucky to get famous.
Script – The directions and lines for actors in a play or a movie.
Complicated – (Fu za) Like the word. Difficult!
Personality – What makes you who you are, nice, cool, funny, mean, etc. Models can show their personality in their face in a very short time.
Casting – An event where people are invited to “try-out” for a modeling job, or an acting job.
Grammar
Even – Even though I did some exercise today, I’m still full of energy.
The fashion department of Donghua University is very famous – Fashion is the department that makes clothing.
What kind of… What kind of costumes have you made?
I haven’t… I haven’t designed any clothes, because I am still a freshman. The more senior students do the design.
There are people studying modeling at Donghua University
Not “Take pictures,” but “get your picture taken.” – Which means that somebody took a picture of you.
There are many private schools teaching children how to model.
