Vocabulary

Typo – a mistake in spelling, punctuation, or form which is just because your fingers made a mistake, not your brain
e.g. When I typed ssytem instead of system, that was a typo.

Abbreviation – when you shorten a word
e.g. Hey bro! (“bro” is short for brother)
Acronym – when you shorten a word by taking the few letter (or few letters) of each word, and forming one word
e.g. Laser (a certain type of flashlight) is an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.” It is formed by taking the first letter of each word: l -a -s -e -r
e.g. POS stands for “point of sale.”

Synonyms for Inventory – catalogue, stock
— An inventory tells you both what you have and how many
— A catalogue tells you what you have, but not how many
e.g. We have 20,000 items in our catalogue (20,000 different things you can buy)
— A stock is more about how much you have, more in total
e.g. Our warehouse has 20,000 items in stock (we have, in total, 20,000 items in the warehouse)

Wares – goods
e.g. Come in and take a look at our wares!

Emphasis – something you want to draw attention to, or the heavy syllable of a word
e.g. We are putting an emphasis on customer service this month.
e.g. The difference between desert and dessert is where you put the emphasis.

Improvement – make better
Update – to get and use the new improvements

Sales – this could also refer to the entire sales department
e.g. I went down to sales to talk to Carolyn about the new order.

Grammar

By vs. with – by is used to explain a way or a method; with is to describe what you tool you used
e.g. I went home by subway; I went by the school on my way home; I found you by looking for your orange hat.
e.g. I hit him with a hammer.

Speaking exercise

I went to Taiyuan in Shanxi  Province, because we have a new system which calls PoS. I will put the transactions into the system. Another function of the system is you can search the inventory in it. In our company we need a version improvement of this PoS system. We should implement this system into a new store. I am responsible for the impletation. The work include check the system and check the machines is work well, and tell the sales how to use the system.
