Demo Class Notes (Raphael – Tibo)

I am a student right now, I major in interpreting and the reason I want to learn English speaking is because last week there was an exam. the judge didn’t think I was being communicative enough I was not delivering the message but translating like a machine and I think that is because I stay at home and practice on my own.
I want to apply for another uni in the US or UK and it will start in September or October and I will have to take the IELTS exam.
I scored 8 last time but I am a little rusty. probably in september

first we listen to the speech then take down some notes then look at the notes and give the speech
When I was put under that stressful situation I didn’t know how to communicate naturally with people so my words and sentences were rigid and weird.
I am not confident in my delivery enough. Many native speakers wouldn’t say it that way.
Most of the time I will look for materials that have 2 languages but somehow I don’t think that is the right way to learn. I know how to express it in a standard way but next time I might need something new.

Before that I was able to communicate with people but after I put so much attention into the grammar that may not have a big effect on my delivery.

most of the time I feel I have delivered the message but chances are people don’t get the meaning at all.
We do have a focus on politics / economics / finance and hot issues.
Topics on China – US relationship / Brexit / oil prices it is not very technical but it is important for us to precisely deliver the message from the speaker.

I practice at home with videos 3-5 mins -> translate -> go back and clarify then search for some vocabulary that might be missing

I would think of the protest which happened in HK.
It also reminded me of a small video posted by Trevor.
He thinks that this is justified even if they cause damages because at first  justice was already damaged / justice was breached / they perceive the justice system as biased.

so it didn’t matter which form of protest they adopted.
many people might condemn this kind of protest but I think if we are not talking about practices on Corona they may have a point.

if the government is allowed with more power -> if it is given more power / allowed to use more power

during emergent times -> emergency times

when he reviewed the conspiracy -> revealed

the government is spying us -> spying on us
