Writing exercise

Though I am the only child in my family, my parents were both born in very big families – my farther has 5 siblings, and my mother has 6. Therefore, CNY is really a big day for my family with so many relatives to meet.
We had planned to travel in CNY, but with so many people in the decision, we never got an agreed destination. So far, we spent all CNY in my hometown with whole family, and I think the following one is the same.
I plan to fly back to my hometown by the day before CNY Eve. By that time, my parents should already buy all food, beverage & snacks needed in CNY, which are usually over-loaded. On CNY Eve, my small family will drive to my grandma’s. All my relatives from my father side will gather around, talk to each other, and prepare for the big eve dinner.
Eve dinner dishes seem similar every year. Dumplings are must, following by pork, chicken, shrimp, & vegetables. There will be also changes, say, last year I even saw Japanese salmon sushi. I wonder what will be shown as new dish this year.
After dinner, I quite enjoy talking to my cousins while watching TV. We grew up together, while now we are working in different cities, and basically only see each other once or twice a year. One of my cousins are going to get married in July 2019. She told me her love story on Wechat in pieces, but I still want more gossip & show my congratulation to her F2F.
When midnight comes, we will say ‘happy CNY’ to everybody. Though all my cousins & I are already adults, we will still get “Lucky Money” from my grandma. That’s my favorite time since my childhood. When I was a child, I was happy to get it as I could buy things that I wanted. Now I am happy as I am still treated as a child, who always enjoy big amount of love from my grandma.
It seems a normal, and maybe even a little boring CNY among most people in China. But I have to say, CNY is still my favorite festival. Busy working life in big city makes me treasure those peaceful days with family around. Hope CNY coming soon!
