Vocabulary

graph – an image that represents numbers or data

eg: There are many kinds of graphs. Bar graph, Pie Chart, Ven Diagram…

eg: We don’t include graphs in our excel files.

spreadsheet – 1. a sheet of paper with a  GRID, (meaning many boxes. )  2. an excell file type

eg: Can we take a look at that spreadsheet again?

eg: I need to create a spreadsheet for product costs.


How to describe Numbers Going UP or DOWN:

UP: (Increase)

The price increased by 10% based on the price of last year.

Vocab:

Bumped up ( a slight increase)

Moved up / Went up / Rose (past tense of rise)

Jumped (a big increase)

(Sky) Rocketed /is Rocketing (a huge increase, very quickly)

DOWN: (Decrease)

Vocab:

Dropped – go down quickly

eg: The price dropped a lot over 6 months.

Moved down / Went down

eg: These costs keep going down.

Fall

eg: We expect insurance costs to fall after the government introduces their new program.

Plummet – to fall, very quickly down

eg: The stock is plummeting, I lost big on it.

The rental fee decreased by 5% compared to last year.

BOTH: Up and down

Vocab:

Dip:   Down a little first then back up

eg: We usually have  a dip in production during the holidays.

eg: Production dips in the winter.

eg: Production dipped last month, but the factory recovered.

Fluctuate:   Continuously changing

eg: Currency values are always fluctuating.

Spike:   There was a spike in sales in May.

eg: There seems to be a spike in costs from this (tariff) situation.
