Vocabulary
Stool – a chair with no arms
Pedestal – a tall, circular thing used for showing art or fancy items for sale
e.g. We went and saw the ancient Chinese pottery, which was displayed on a nice pedestal.
Podium – 1. a raised place for an important person to stand, like a small stage 2. a stand for putting papers on while you give a speech, often with a microphone
e.g. He went up to the podium to give his speech.
Foot Traffic / Pedestrians – many people walking; the individual people who are walking
Grammar
Go to bed = Get into bed
Hyphens are used to show that two words are working together to describe only one thing or one idea.
e.g. Marxist-Leninist Mao Zedong Thought
e.g. Fresh-Squeezed Orange Juice (we just squeezed the juice from the oranges; it’s not that the we squeezed the juice after getting it out of the oranges)
e.g. Hand-cut steaks (and-cut steak – it wasn’t a machine that cut these steaks, it was someone’s hands; they are “steaks that were cut by hand”)
Hyphens can be used with all kinds of words types: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, BUT NOT prepositions
e.g. He is a Marxist-Leninist (two nouns making one noun)
e.g. These steaks are hand-cut (noun and verb, now an adjective)
e.g. This is a blue-green pencil (two adjectives, making one adjective)
e.g. He is quite-highly regarded (two adverbs, making one adverb)

Importance of Adjectives
Adjectives can have different importance depending upon whether they describe each other.
Hot, Cinnamon, Honey-Butter Cream (this is a cream); this takes three steps to get to the final product
Hot Cinnamon-Honey Butter-Cream (this is a butter-cream); this takes two steps to get to the final product
Hot, Cinnamon, Honey, Butter, Cream (this is a cream); this takes four steps to get to the final product
— These are different because the hyphen shows us which parts describe a single thing.
