Timed reading practice + Writing task 1

Consider these questions when reading: 

-What is the main idea of the paragraph/passage?

-What is the cause/effect?

-What is the writer suggesting/implying? What examples do they give to support their point?

-What is the writer’s opinion? Does the passage present a counterargument?

Vocabulary

radical – believing or expressing that there should be a need for social or political change

ex. Tesco did not consider introducing radical changes to their business practices.

ex. Her ideas are too radical for people to accept.

incentive – reward that motivates you to do something 奖励

ex. Brands offer incentives during sales to encourage consumers to buy more.

ex. Companies pay bonuses to employees to provide an incentive for them to work harder.
