Writing exercise

Write about a place you travelled to and describe it in detail and tell me why people go there. What did you do there / who did you go with?

I have a Silk Road travel plan in the next five years, staring at Lanzhou and end at Europe. This year is my first trip. I took the round trip from Lanzhou to Dunhuang, which I travelled with two of my friends in 10 days. We hired a car and travelled to 6 different cities.

This is definitely one of most unforgotten trip in my life. The landscape in the North West China is magnificent, within a week, you will be able to experience different season and geographic landscape. We have seen mountains, plateau, desert, farmland, saltpan, Danxia landform and canyon. Also, there are one of the largest flower fields in China, unfortunately we missed it due to the season. On the way, we have visited one of the most beautiful highway in China, which is a long straight highway with beautiful fields on the both sides and mountains at far back. There are many wild animals on the road. Every time when car travel across a mountain, the temperature changed dramatically from 15 degree down to 2 degree. Because of the uniqueness of the landscape and temperature, this places has grown great fruits and agriculture. Danxia is a spectacular landscape, which this area is the only few places has this kind of landscape. You will be able to see several colour from hills and rocks. According to our local driver, it is particularly amazing to see it after raining day. Unfortunately we visited on the windy day, but still remarkable view in front of us.

There are rich culture in the North West. Majority of the citizens are Han ethnic group, but also have many Zang people and Muslims believes people. There are many people still live in their traditional tent and wearing traditional clothes. Their local foods are absolutely delicious, which I personally really enjoy their roast lamb dishes. We have visited many museums, with rich culture of Silk Road. The highlight of my trip is in Dunhuang, where you will be able to see the world famous historical wall painting and sculpture, which you can understand the rich history back 1,000 years ago. Historically, Duhuang is not just an important city for China to host traveller from west, but also key military base, which part of end of the great wall is also in this area.
