Whether it is a must for each students in high school to contribute themselves to community service has given life to a heated discussion. In contrast to those who take students doing volunteer work for granted,l subscribe to the idea that those kinds of unpaid community service should not be compulsory for everyone.
It is possible that the mandatory requirement will eventually reduce to an empty formalism.Taking where l live in as an example,it has issued recently that high school students should volunteer for at least 48 hours during 3 years, otherwise you cannot graduate. At the very beginning, the mandatory requirement repelled everyone, since no one was forced to devote themselves before. Moreover,as for those who has stepped into high school just now, they has little experience of volunteering, which inevitably lead to the consequence that everyone is at a loss what to do.Without any guidance, they began to seek for opportunities under the threat of not being able to graduate.Practically, there is no such a huge demand for volunteers so that everyone seems leisurely and carefree during the time they should make every endeavors to service others due to reluctancy subjectively and lack of need objectively. So we can draw the conclusion of that it would be better for give freedom to students to choose to volunteer or not.
Furthermore, it can boost studentsā€™ interpersonal skills.Indeed, students will encounter people with diverse personality or characteristics during the process of volunteer jobs. Under such circumstance, students should analyze these peopleā€™s features and provide relevant strategies so that students can finish their expected jobs. For example, those eccentric people invariably refuse othersā€™ aid unless they completely trust those helpers, which is rather a challenge for high school students. However, school is not the place for students to practice such ability.
Even though participating in proper volunteer jobs is reasonable, forcing students to do it deprives students of their own options.
To conclude, the unpaid community service should be promoted in high school. However, schools are suggested to consider studentsā€™ will so that schools can guarantee the validity of these volunteer activities.

Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programs (for example working for charity, improving the neighborhood or teaching sports to younger children). To what extent do you agree or disagree?
