Bacardi was founded by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso in 1862 in Cuba. It’s a family owned company and is known for its white rum. Facundo Bacardi was born in 1814 in Spain and he moved to Cuba in 1830. He used to sell wine in Spain and then he moved to Cuba and made white rum by using charcoal and doing experiments with the yeast and aging the rum in white oak barrels.

The logo comes from the bats that lived in the roof of their first distillery. They chose it because many people at that time couldn’t read or write and it was easy to remember.

Bacardi became so popular in America because of prohibition, so people would go to cuba to drink and they would have the chance to try Bacardi. After prohibition ended, Americans wanted Bacardi rum in America, so it became very popular and the company expanded to America. The reason for the business success of the company is mostly because of Henri Schueg who once said that “Cuba is the home of rum, and Bacardi is the king of rums”. They expanded to Mexico and then to other countries.

Bacardi rum, daiqueri, cuba libre were mentioned in books by the famous author Hemmingway. This helped to make the brand even bigger.
