eg. wearing casual shoes to work is not appropriate for most jobs

fail miserably = completely fail

misuse = use wrong
misstep = step in the wrong place / make a mistake

make up – to make everything OK again after a fight
eg. I gave Judy some flowers so we could make up

get even – to balance things with someone after losing face
eg. Gloria wanted Claire to jump in the pool to get even with her

to settle your differences – to talk through things and make everything OK within your relationship

takes over – to take control of sth 
eg. when i leave the company one of my colleagues will take over

gold digger – a young woman that dates rich guys for money
cradle snatcher – an older woman that dates young guys
