For most of those categories, it is evident that over this time frame there was significant change in their proportion of household expenditures.

At 3.3% we can see that housing accounted for the minority of household expenditures in 1950, but this percentage had rose to 19.2% by 2010. During the same sixty-year period, as people face an increasing varieties of food to purchase , we can see that food went from just 11.2% to 34%, making it the sector with the largest overall proportion of the household expenditures.

In 1950, the housing expenditures boasted an impressive 72.1% of the total online sales in Canada. However, by 2010, the figure had fallen considerably to 22%. Interestingly, proportion of health care and education stay almost the same over these years, although time has changed with more concentration on public welfare.
