Writing exercise
āIf you have a minute, is it possibleā¦.ā This is a great sentence which I heard from a video yesterday. I believed that it would be very useful and polite.
In my English learning journey, there is a concept that learn English equals to remember the words.
What should I write then? It is hard to write something without any topic. My head is blank now.
OK, I understand that I should treat this like a conversation instead of a writing.
So, letās just talk about movie? Yeah, movie is a great topic. One of my favor movies is The Great Gatsby, a poor guy builds up a business empire from nothing, (wait, did Fitzgerald illustrate or implied that Gatsby has a business empire? Well, maybe he didnāt illustrate but he did imply that~ At least I believe he did. Btw I have to admit I searched the authorās name āFitzgeraldā, I understand I should not use the search engine, I just want to respect the author haha) anyway, after the poor guy became rich, finally he decided to fight for his true love (I donāt know whether it can be consider as āfightingā or not, maybe āchasing back?ā I need an appropriate word here)
The result was realistic, daisy still want to keep her upper-class life and reputation rather than a romantic dream. What I like most in this story, is the way how Gatsby access to daisy after they loss the touch for many years. Gatsby built a relationship with many powerful people, politicians, celebrity, artist. To show his power, money, fame, and taste. Besides, he also said he graduated from Oxford, which implied he is well-educated (Well, I do think nowadays degree can be says as an underlying luxury as well, another barrier which used for building human being hierarchy. The poor showing luxury, ordinary people pursue degree, the rich showingĀ Ā Ā Ā courtesy and taste, the common needs behind this is just a simple word called being respect. From this perspective, the rappers are the real wise man, after all they always use the word ārespectā) Letās go back to the topic, after all these cliches. I would say I admire Gatsby, what I valued most from him is after he met all the secular standard, what driven him is still the true love and he would like to give up many things for elopement with the one he loved. I mean romanticism is the great thing, itās would be very boring world if we live without it, I think William Shakespeare thinks so as well.
One of my friends told me that his mother passed away yesterday. I was shocked, because this is the thing I feared.Ā I never experienced any loss about close relatives for now. However, when the time goes by, I can feel the life of my grandpa and grandma is passing, sometimes I dreamed about their leave I feel deeply sad, but when I wake up and realize they are still there, which make me feel better. What I experienced is just some dreams, and still make me feel exhausted, so I cannot really understand my friendās feeling. I want console him, but donāt know what to say. I know there are many things can only be resolved by time.
