eg. because the cow was in the middle of the path, I had to take a detour

40 minutes there and back / 40 minutes each way
eg. going to school was 40 minutes each way every day

hilly and windy – go up and down, and lots of turns
eg. the route to school was very hilly and windy

eg. I had an unhappy childhood

neighborhood – the place around your house

Grammar

it was far away to my home – it was far away from my home 

would = if + will
could = if + can
eg. If I had a million dollars, I could buy a house… but, I don’t need a house, so I would buy 5 cars.
