anticipate = against / fight / prepare

step out of your comfort zone – do sth you’re not comfortable with / familiar with but which you can learn from
eg. I think stepping out of your comfort zone sometimes is really important for self improvement

jump into the deep end – to do something unfamiliar without planning, training or preparation because it’s a good way to learn
eg. I just like to jump into the deep end

he hasn’t moved on / he’s not over it – when someone is still emotionally connected to an ex girlfriend or something

threw a spanner in the works – to cause a big problem suddenly
eg. the whole problem with the police threw a spanner in the works so we’re a bit disorganised at the moment
