Vocabulary
Scuba diving- When you wear special equipment to go deep sea diving.
e.g. I went scuba diving in Thailand last year with my husband.
Maldives- (Maerdaifu) Mawl-deevz
Shares- The parts of a company that you can buy, or put money in.
e.g. I have shares in JINGDONG and when LiuQiangDong was arrested in America, I lost a lot of money.
Majority- When you have the larger part of something
e.g. Morgan Stanley bought a majority of shares in Korres because they think it will grow globally.
Mark-up- When you put the price higher than it is.
e.g. If you want to fly during national holiday, all the plane tickets are marked-up.
Factory- A place that produces things or other goods
e.g. Guangdong used to be a production center, with many international factories being built there.
Cost- How much money you need to spend on something
e.g. My vacation during national holiday will cost me over 100 000 rmb.
Brand identity- How we think of a certain brand, what opinion we have of it.
e.g. It is very important to respect a brand’s identity when doing marketing and advertising.
Collaboration- When two companies work together on a product.
e.g. Louis Vuitton and Supreme recently had a very successful collaboration.
Opposite- Not the same way, completely different.
e.g. Louis Vuitton and Old Navy are completely opposite brands, one is casual one is luxury.
Font-The way letters look.
e.g. I only use Times New Roman font when I type a document in English.
Retreat- Some companies hold a celebration where they bring all the employees to a special place.
e.g. My company will have a retreat in Santorini next year.
