writing connections:
– not just “On the other hand, In addition…furthermore…” <– When you use this connection words, they should be 1) brand new idea/info 2) the relationship must not be forced
– Use more natural connections … “to illustrate this point… from this perspective…”
– Old info -> new info

“speak sb’s mind” -> tu lu xin sheng = “open up”

anymore vs again
– anymore is more for stopping this continuous action. one time action -“again”
ie. I don’t want to work here anymore. I don’t want to work here again.
ie. I don’t want to be in a relationship anymore. I don’t want to be in a relationship again.

for example = for instance

Only one person is at the same age of mine.
Only one person is the same age as me.
Only one person is my (similar) age.

Q: Tell me about the place where you grew up.
A: I grew up in a beautiful place named PX, a small town in SC province. In my memories, there’s many old people living there. There is a river in the town and we all lived nearby it. There’s many street shops selling fresh vegetables, eggs, and meat. It’s so different with SH, because you will never see the street shops in the center of SH. Also, the life in my hometown is slower than SH. We don’t have many pressures of earning money. However, if you live a slow life in SH, you may not achieve your dream. So I like SH more.
A: I grew up in a beautiful place named PX, a small town in SC province. In my memories, there were many old people living there, maybe because the young people had all left for bigger cities.  There is a river in the town and we all lived nearby/near it/close to it. Along the river, there were many street shops selling fresh vegetables, eggs, and meat. These shops were almost my favorite because my mom would take me there to buy me a reward every time I do well on a test. I think this incentive is why I did so well in school. It’s so different to/from/than SH, because I could never find these street shops anywhere near central SH. Also, life in my hometown is more relaxed than in SH./people in PX live in a more relaxed way. We don’t have a lot of pressure of earning money./from work. However, if you live a slow life in SH, you would not achieve your dream. So even though I have all those wonderful childhood memories in PX,  I like SH more and I don’t think I would consider going back to my hometown anytime soon… Maybe when I’m older.

Writing exercise

My friend told me that her necklace disappeared after birthday dinner at her home with her in-laws. She believed the necklace was taken by her 8-year-old sister-in-law.

To be honest, my friend doesn’t really like that girl who’s a “cry-baby”, and she even imitated the girl’s funny crying look in front of me. My friend asked the girl about the necklace, but she denied. Then my friend told her that she was the only one who went inside her room that day. After their heart-to-heart conversation,
the girl finally admitted and made her commitments of not doing it anymore to my friend.

My friend thinks the little girl did that was because of many external factors ,for example, she was bound too much by her own family. So my friend forgave her and gave her a previous dress. Hope they can be friends in the future.

After their heart-to-heart (n), the girl finally admitted it/to stealing the necklace and made her commitments of not doing it again to my friend./promised her that she would never do it again./promised not to do it again./made a promise to never do it again.

My friend thinks why the little girl did that was because of many external factors/the little stole her necklace because of outside factors/many reasons ,For example/instance,she was bound too much by her own family. So my friend forgave her and gave her a previous/an old dress. Hope they can be friends in the future.
