We can measure a successful game through its internal and extrenal reasons. For the internal reasons, it’s about the game design, such as graphics, music, the feeling of fighting, story and so on.
A good game tells us a touching story with its realistic graphics and different charactors who have different personalities. Especially,when you play a rpg game, it is likely that you come into the fantasy world where you experience the powerful magic and engage with NPCs. For example, when you play the detroit: becoming human, and if you choose the the robot,Connor, you must protect the rights of robots and make your choice to live with humans or dominate humans. A good game will give players chances to experience a new world and also make them feel happy or sad/influence their emotions. Also, a successful game can have its own new play mode. Twenty years ago, we played the RTS game, such as Warcraft 3 , Red Alert 2, but now we are playing moba games or fps games, such as LOL , CSGO. We may feel dull if we play the same type of game, so the designer will create new type of games. It is a diffcult work to create new type of game. That’s why there are a lot of similiar games in the market which just change the style of art. But if it is a new idea and can be accepted by the most of players, it is certainly popular.
On the other hand/In addition/Additionally, there are also external reasons. It includes market, the number of players, the community of player, the operation of game designers. I take an example of Genshin. The success of Genshin is not only due to its perfect charactors ,but also the official support that operators give to the players to publish/post their own second-creation videos. It builds a balanced and fair environment in the community. Players can talk about their favourite characters freely and attract more players. In recent update of version, the charator named yunjin combined the chinese elements of beijing opera and spread the culture of chinese. It is undoubtedly a great success.
Finally, a lot of websites score the game based on its own rules of scoring which is/as only a reference. And the most successful games are absolutely classic and changes the future design of game.
