The simple past requires: (was/were) + a verb in the past tense, or if the verb is irregular you add ed at the end.
You use the past tense when you talk about the past.
Eg. When i was child
Eg. I was walking when i saw a monkey
Eg. I had to do something

Regarding the present, I think 3 forms of the present exist. One is for when the action continues, one for when the action is (present perfect) happend in the past and finished, and one for when it is happening now.
Eg. I come everyday to smartenglish.
Eg. I have learnt chinese for one year.
Eg. I’m in china
Where i put ING?

The futur it with will + infinitif.
Eg. In 1 year i will be in portugal
