Open F2F Class notes 23rd June (Eddie)
Mens sana in corpore sano = Healthy mind in a healthy body
asics = anima sana in corpore sano
in situ = in the actual location
E.g. The patient was in a serious condition, so the doctors decided to operate in situ rather than taking him to the hospital.
per se = actual, as such
E.g. Last night I went home and collapsed on the couch. I didn’t sleep per se, but it was good to lie down for a while.
The perspective of insurance is changing and transforming. For our generation, we think we should buy some insurance for us and insure our life quality and not job if something happens to us, but in our parents’ generation they think they should make money, so that’s the biggest gap between our generation and the previous generation. For example, I talked to my mother that I wanted to buy some insurance for me and her feedback was that insurers are all liars and … I wanted to buy some insurance for her but it was not very cheap at the time, but now the value is low, so that’s why she tried to block me to try to buy some insurance. So that’s why I think they all want to insure they make many and once they find that the insurers can’t have some profit they say it is liar, but I think that is not true. The insurance for us is just if something happens to me, I can have enough money for my sick, or for my injure, and if I die in an accident, I want to insure my wife or my parents have enough money to continue to live well.
The perspective of insurance is changing and transforming. Our generation, we think we should buy insurance for us to improve the quality of our lives / to have peace of mind / as a safety net and if something happens to us, whereas / while the majority of people over 60 still think of insurance as means to make money.  For example, when I mentioned to my mother that I wanted to buy insurance for me, her feedback was that insurers are all liars. I wanted to buy some insurance for her but it was not very cheap at the time. Now the value is low, so that’s why she tried to block me to try to buy some insurance. So that’s why I think they all want to insure they make many and once they find that the insurers can’t have some profit they say it is liar, but I think that is not true. The insurance for us is just if something happens to me, I can have enough money for my sick, or for my injure, and if I die in an accident, I want to make sure / ensure that my wife or my parents have enough money to continue to live well.
to insure = to buy insurance
