Vocabulary


Swollen – used to describe a body part that is larger and more red than usual

Puffy – used to describe swollen eyes

Fake Market – a market that sells “fake” products, mostly purses, watches, and scarves, 假货.

Expat – coming from the word expatriate, a person who does not live in his or her original country

Stereotype – something that people believe to be true about an entire group (usually not true)

Ex. A stereotype about Chinese people is that they only eat rice.

Stereotypical – agreeing with or being an example of a stereotype

Ex. Cultural gifts bought at the fake market are usually stereotypical.

To stay up – to remain awake

Ex. I stayed up very last night talking on the phone with a friend.

We do not use the plural form of uncountable nouns, such as knowledge and math.

The word welcome is both a verb and an adjective. That being said, we normally do not used the word welcomed because the word welcome (adj) is sufficient.
