Civil War (n): 1- a war that happens within a country. 2- A war that happened in the United States between 1861 and 1865
E.g. The ongoing civil war in Syria has left hundreds of thousands of people dead or homeless.

Slavery (n): 1- a condition of having to work very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation.
E.g.: Slavery ended in the United States as a result of the Civil War.

Slave (n): 1- a person who is taken and forced to work for no money and with no freedom of choice.
E.g.: After the end of slavery, all the slaves were freed.

Deputy (n): 1- a person whose immediate superior is a senior figure within an organization and who is empowered to act as a substitute for this superior.
E.g.: His deputy has been largely running the business for the past year.

Digital: (of signals or data) expressed as series of the digits 0 and 1, typically represented by values of a physical quantity such as voltage or magnetic polarization. 2- relating to, using, or storing data or information in the form of digital signals.”digital TV” 3- involving or relating to the use of computer technology. 4- Digital media = 数字媒体
E.g.: Digital media has been taking over the market over the past few years.

Great press: good coverage by the media.
E.g.: The president has been getting great press because of his many accomplishments.

Reputation (n): the way people talk about you
E.g.: Charleston has a reputation for being a very friendly city.

Beverage: a drink, other than water.
E.g.: When the guests arrived, he offered them a cold beverage.

Navigable: easy to walk around and find your way.
E.g.: Because it has signs both in English and Chinese, Shanghai is one of China’s most navigable cities for foreigners.
