Vocabulary

Guessing English from the words you know: 

Pay attention to parts of words to see if you are already familiar with that part of the word

eg: Firearms – guns.    Fire that come from your arm.

eg: Contradiction – to say something against another thing or person     Contra –  against  Dictate – to speak or say out.


Prefix – a part of a word that we add to the beginning of another word

eg: Self– (combining form) 1. of oneself or itself: self-defence, self-rule

2. by, to, in, due to, for, or from the self: self-employed, self-inflicted, self-respect
3. automatic or automatically: self-propelled

Anti-(against)

Counter – (opposite direction) Counterclockwise, Counter-intuitive ( easily misunderstood)

Pre – before

Suffix – add to the end of the word

able to be able to do      (can be creative and add to almost anything. even if it’s wrong grammar)

ist – kind of person    Scientist, Atheist(doesn’t believe in god), Racist (dislike other races)
