Tell me about a challenge you’ve met in your work.

In 2021, we were assigned to promote the COP 26 campaign. COP 26 was the conference hosted in UK Glasgow where many countries’ leaders will discuss how to tackle the global climate change issues. The biggest challenge will be two: firstly, the target audience is vast. Climate change seems to relate to everyone. As it’s too broad, it’s tough to do targeting. At the same time, the global team set very high expectations and KPI for this campaign because they think the topic relates to all the global citizens.
Secondly, the budget is minimal. Only half million was given for all east Asia countries while the duration of this campaign is ten months. Generally for one product launch in luxury marketing, we use about two millions to promote it.

Finally, I initiated the partnership with the Chinese government-owned magazine to promote this #cop 26# campaign. This magazine focused on introducing celebrities’ lifestyles and interviews. They shoot all different top stars in China every week. The magazine is originated from UK named OK magazine, which makes this partnership more appropriate and easy to get approval from UK headquarter as well. Another benefit I noticed later is that these months, many top Chinese celebrities were punished due to their bad behaviors. As this magazine is strictly controlled by the Chinese government, it already helps us to filter the quality. In total, we collaborated with 8 top influencers in different fields, such as: artists, dancers, actors, and one game player. All of them recorded a video for the climate-change-related topics. We published these videos on our digital channels, which drove extensive awareness and high engagement among the competitive online environment. We also converted many of the influencer’s fans to our brand fans.

This campaign will finish next month. We see the reports from the global team that China is the only country that hit the set KPI while the other countries are much far from it.

As a professional marketing person, I always have a mindset to solve problems. Make things done. The to-C market is very competitive as the entry-level is relatively low. My biggest strength is curiosity and creativity, which I am sure I can also adapt in the finance industry.

Of all the positions, which one was the most challenging/your favorite?
Actually I am not quite sure whether I understand this question correctly. I only work in the marketing function during my past working experience. Among all the marketing positions, digital marketing and CRM positions are my favorites. I have a high interest in people and their ways of behavior. I am always curious about people’s motivation and how they make decisions and behave. While CRM and marketing positions can provide me the platforms to see each customer’s purchase steps and their decision-making process. By leveraging different analysis models and tools in the CRM system, we better understand their purchase behaviors from a top-down level. These years, with the high development of digital marketing tools, especially the tracking system, we can do more targeting promotion and make the marketing effect more precise and efficient. That’s how I feel achieved and proud about my job. I am pretty lucky that all the positions I have been in are my favorite ones as all of them are about studying people and influencing their behaviors.
