Vocabulary

detain – temporary in prison

a Suspect – a person suspected of committing crime

to charge – 

he was charged with murder

defendant – the suspect in court

defence lawyer – 

prosecution lawyer – 

verdict – result in court

attorney – American English for lawyer

to sentence – judges decision in court

the judge sentenced him to life in prison.

expelled – forced to leave permanently

he was expelled from the communist party

suspended sentence – don’t go to prison but its on record

Probation – checked by police if released from prison early or on suspended sentence.
