Chinese New Year is the biggest and most famous festival of China.There are a lot of traditional customs during the CNY, with pasting couplets and setting off firecrackers being the two activities which best show/represent the atmosphere of this festival.
They are both the things people do on the last day of the lunar year and pasting couplets is on the must to do list forever, being a Chinese we can’t image a spring festival without couplets.In the past, we would take a traditional way to paste couplets by using some starch paste, but it has been replaced by tapes nowadays, and the styles of couplets is becoming….
Apart from couplets, firecrackers and fireworks also give a strong sense of spring festival and bring tons of fun for people, though the government has limited a lot on it,it is still an joyous/convivial activity which some people love the most.It is side that the sound of firecrackers can scare off the Nian monster and you will get ride of all bed luck after setting off it , then you can welcome a brand new year with confidence….
These two traditions function as a launching ceremony of the CNY.No matter how times change, I think the original meaning of them would not be changed.
