International support for China’s response to United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan has poured in as an increasing number of countries have reiterated their adherence to the one-China principle.

On the sidelines of the just-concluded ASEAN-plus foreign ministers’ meetings in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a series of bilateral talks with foreign ministers participating in the meetings, who told Wang that their countries firmly support China in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said that recent US provocations violated China’s sovereignty, broke its own promises and aggravated cross-Straits tensions, fully exposing the hypocrisy and hegemonic behavior of the US side.

He said that Cambodia firmly adheres to the one-China policy, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and his country supports China in safeguarding its legitimate rights and resolutely responding to the US provocations.

China has said that the one-China principle is the political foundation for all the countries to have diplomatic relations with China. However, in recent years, the US has distorted, obscured and hollowed out the principle and Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was a serious violation of this principle.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith said that Laos is opposed to any attempt to create “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan” and will continue to firmly stand with China and support it in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias told his Chinese counterpart that Greece and China have a shared position on safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as upholding the international order. Greece will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle, and will never take any other option, he said.

Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said that his country has a clear and consistent commitment to the one-China policy and is opposed to “Taiwan independence” and any unilateral move to change the status quo.

Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta also reiterated adherence to the one-China principle.

Governments and political parties in more than 160 countries as well as international organizations have spoken up in various ways to support China’s position and reiterated their commitment to the one-China principle, the Foreign Ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan reflects Washington’s desire to prove its impunity and lawlessness.

The top Russian diplomat said at a news conference in Myanmar that he did not see any reason for the US to provoke China literally out of nowhere.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Wednesday criticized Pelosi’s visit, saying that “provocative moves” by the US threaten international peace and stability.

Francois Nkuna Balumuene, ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to China, told CGTN in an interview that the Taiwan question is totally China’s internal affair.

He said that “since the normalization of relations between the DRC and China 50 years ago, the African nation has been adhering to the one-China principle, which should also be observed by all countries in the world”.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its firm rejection of the actions aimed at harming China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and condemned the US interference in China’s internal affairs.
