Summary:
The semi-conductor chips shortage will cause huge losses in the auto industry in 2020 and 2021. AlixPartners consulting firm gave a report that shows $110 billion on it.
The firm said the auto industry would lose about 3.9 million vehicles for the chips shortage in 2021, and the new model vehicle will also be delayed in 2022.
Things get worse in the next few weeks. Consumers are hard to get new vehicle they like or get the normal price. Now, the chip capacity has been given to them. Bad luck for the auto industry
Some special cases happened in last few months made things worse. For example, the ice storm in Texas, A serious fire in Japan, and a drought in Taiwan. They are all very important semi-conductor production base.
OEMs ,from General Motors, Volkswagen and Toyota, to Bentley, Aston Martin and Ferrari, have been affected. They all started slowing production or shutting down production lines. Some of the best-selling and highest-profit vehicles in the industry are affected.
There are as many as 1,400 chips in a typical 2021 automobile,. Maybe we can use “VAVE” to reduce the impact. VAVE means reduce some features, reduce the use of chips and maintain main functions.
Car dealers are also feeling the pinch, with their inventories down to 30 days.
