Today, we learned some new words by reading a news article and talking about related topics.

Vocabulary

Wilful – “deliberate” or “stubborn.” A child who exhibits willful disobedience knows she is doing something wrong (even if she tries to convince you otherwise).

While being full of will may not seem like a bad thing, the word willful is usually negative in meaning. Use it when someone is behaving in a stubborn or uncooperative manner. To describe someone who possesses dedication or perseverance in a positive sense, consider determined, driven, or decisive.

department / apartment
These two words sound similar but they are very different.
Apartment – a home in an apartment building
I live in a small apartment in a big apartment building

Department – a part of a business, government or organization
I work in the sales department

Agriculture – the science of farming
The agriculture department said that farmers should not sell contaminated food

Contaminated – impure
The bananas were contaminated with insecticide so they were not safe to eat

degrees celcius – temperature measurement
It is 7 temperature
It is 7 degrees celsius / It is 7 degrees

disposition – personality
I have a sunny personality
I have a sunny disposition
