In today’s class, we learned some new words and focused more on mistakes that you repeated from the last class.

We should focus more on using the past tense correctly. This is really important because using the incorrect tense will lead to misunderstandings.

Vocabulary

normal – this word is most often used in scientific situations
The doctor said my blood pressure is normal.

ordinary – this word is most often used in everyday situations
I had an ordinary day

run-of-the-mill – means ordinary
I had a run-of-the-mill day

encourage – verb
the teacher said I should encourage my son

encouragement – noun
the teacher said I should give him some encouragement

peaceful – this is used more often to describe a place. it is not usually used to describe someone’s mood
We went camping near a very peaceful lake

calm – this word is used more often to describe someone’s mood
I saw that he looked very calm in the video

snack (verb/noun) – a small amount of food eaten between meals
They had a snack after playing
They snacked on cookies

snap (verb) – to break suddenly / to make a cracking sound with two fingers /

Grammar

Pronunciation

when using the expression ‘run-of-the-mill’, please be careful about pronounciation the vowel in the last syllable. It should be an /ɪ/ sound not and /eɪ/ sound. If you use an ‘eɪ’ sound you are saying ‘mail’.
