In today’s class we talked about moving house and your son’s education. We learned a few new words and a new expression.

Vocabulary

Notice – to become aware of (usually because you saw something)
I noticed that your background has changed.
I noticed that you have a new hairstyle.

Insulation – the material in the walls that keeps your home from getting too cold or hot
My old apartment didn’t have any insulation. That’s why it was so cold.
In summer, an apartment without insulation will be very hot.

Too / either – positive and negative
Joe: I like your hairstyle.
Amy: I like it too.
Joe: I don’t like moving house.
Amy: I don’t like it either.

Neighbourhood – the area around someone’s home
I’m looking for a private tutor in my neighbourhood.

Somebody comes out of their shell – to overcome shyness / to open their mouth to speak
My friend’s son really came out of his shell after he studied with a private tutor
My son has not come out of his shell yet.
