Writing exercise

Before I went to German, typical germany foods I thought had been roasted pork shank, various sausages and sauerkraut. However, while I studied in German, the food impressed me is not those dishes, but potatoes and white asparagus.
Potatoes are usually served as a side dish in China, but they are referred to as staple food in German. I could see them almost every day in the cafeteria of my university, sometimes they appeared as French fries, sometimes as mashed potato. they can also be roasted, boiled or steamed. Actually, at first, I had a hard time getting used to eating them routinely, but then I got used to the days without rice.
Boiled white asparagus with hollandaise is my favorite Germany dish. It’s a pity that it’s a seasonal dish which only can be served in spring. There are more green asparagus in China than the white one and I had never seen it before I went to German. This year I tried to buy white asparagus online but unfortunately it was not fresh enough. Someday, if I have chance to go to Europe again, I hope it will happen in Spring.
