No.3 Surprising.
There are two big surprises during the trip.

While walking on the beach, I spotted a beautiful gastropod shell. I picked it up and put it into the side pocket of my backpack. During our lunch, I took it out for admiration and was surprised to notice something in the shell! I tried to pull it out of the shell but it quickly cringed. When it partly came out some time later, I hurriedly took a picture. It was a hermit crab! I managed to bring it to Shanghai, but I felt soooo sorry that it died.

On the third day, we climbed Laoshan. As it covers a large area, we chose to hike Laoshan Scenic Area Taiqing Tourism Area, which is just a corner of the whole Laoshan area. Laoshan, the first famous maritime mountain, is a perfect and unique combination of both the mountains and the sea. So it is natural for tourists to enjoy both the near mountains and the faraway sea. But who would expect a cascade and a peaceful lake!

Having no plan is the best plan. However, during peak seasons, plans are 99% necessary. Staycation may also be a wonderful choice! Where are you spending your Labour Day holiday?

Writing exercise

I think of laws. If we are overwhelmed by happiness and forget the law, we will taste bitterness sooner or later. OIC, there is no happiness without pain. So there IS a point of struggling in your life, only to make it better in the distant future. Therefore if I choose instant happiness, it is not going to last. Somehow I have to and I am meant to experience different flavours in my life. And it is only when I experience different flavours in my life do I really have the courage to claim that I once lived. I came, I lived my life to the fullest, and I left.

To live my life to the fullest doesn’t necessarily mean that my life should be full of laughter and no sorrow. Instead, it is bitterness, sweetness, sourness, spiciness and many other flavours that make a life full. If tomorrow is my last day alive, will I wave this world goodbye without regrets? If my answer is yes, then I can safely declare that I have lived my life to the fullest. So all I need now is to take action. Stop doing those meaningless things that are wasting my life. I need inner growth. Only by growing my inner self can I really grow.

I think of laws. If we are overwhelmed by happiness and forget the law, we will taste bitterness sooner or later. I have realised that there is no happiness without pain. So there IS a point of struggling in your life, only to make it better in the distant future / later on in life. Therefore if I choose instant gratification / choose to strive for instant happiness, it may not last / it likely won’t last. Anyway, I have to, and I am meant to experience different flavours in my life, and it is only when I experience different flavours in my life do I really have the courage to claim that I once / have lived. I came, I lived my life to the fullest, and I left.

Writing exercise

My colleague and I travelled to Qingdao during our Labour Day holiday from April 25 to 28.

“Unplanned, Lucky, Surprising” — These are the three most suitable words I’d like to use to describe this trip.

No.1 Unplanned.
It is definitely a “last-minute travel”. After a quick browse at some travel guides on Douyin and Xiaohongshu, we selected a few must-sees without the ambition to visit them all. Even though we had to stay there for three nights, only two hotels were booked. A rough travel itinerary can be risky, but it may be surprising as well. 图片

No.2 Lucky.
Luckily, I got onto the CRH train just in time.
Luckily, we cancelled our trip to Changdao Scenic Area, because it rained that day. A visit to an island in the rain would bring us nothing but shiver.
And still luckily on the same day, instead of going to Qingdao Underwater World in the morning, we spent some time on the beach first. The weather in the morning was neither foggy nor rainy. Soft sand massaged our feet. After we came out of Qingdao Underwater World in the afternoon, it began to rain, so we changed our destination from Badaguan Scenic Area to Tsingtao Museum , which was worth a visit.
