Homework

Write about your trip to sanya – feel free to write during the trip if you can! Like a diary 🙂 – what have you been doing? talk about the best and worst things that have happened, any interesting things you’ve seen etc.

Review some of the notes we’ve done and think about the words and grammar. Think of some other sentences you might be able to use these words in during your life or work.

Enjoy your trip!! 😀

Last week the currently 12 most relevant European football teams announced the creation of the European Super League (ESL). The ESL was born to substitute the main football event in history: The Champions League. The project, led by Mr Perez – the president of Real Madrid, would be financed by JP Morgan, which would inject 3.5 billion euros in the new tournament. However, the initiative collapsed in less than 48 hours. After massive negative media coverage, fans disappointment and players fury, there were no alternatives from the heads unless to give up on the utopic project.

The political influence and tentative in transforming the European tournament into a new business model would only benefit the high management of the League. It would be an unexpected profit for the shareholders, thanks to TV contracts and increased revenue from the new competition. Consultation with the fans, players and small teams were skipped.

In the end, the ESL project was a clear example of what can go wrong when there is an overemphasis on property rights without an acknowledgment of broader responsibilities and costs for stakeholders.
